Cross|training Begins...

A new beginning, a fresh start, an open door, a canvas full of possibilities. These are the images in my mind as I anticipate a brand new program starting this Sunday in our children's ministry, Crossing Kids. As Crossing Kids Director, I feel full of joy and excitement waiting to launch "Cross|training" in just a few more days. Sunday cannot get here soon enough.

"Cross|training" is a big deal for us as it is a result of a lot of time, thought, prayer, and research.  Based on the workshop rotation model, "Cross|training" is curriculum written and refined by a Crossing Kids leadership team. Last night, this team of 20 met to iron out some logistics and gear up together for this coming weekend. As we talked, someone suggested putting together a blog to document our journey and provide a place for our team to comment, post, and connect along the way.

You might be wondering, what is  "cross|training?"

Just as an athlete must cross train in many sports and exercises, so we must dig into the Bible in different ways to grow closer to Christ and develop spiritually as His followers. Our new program, "cross|training," helps kids and leaders experience the word of God in a variety of hands-on, interactive ways. In it, kids will rotate through a variety of workshops such as art, science, drama, storytelling, missions, cooking, and games to learn about the Bible in unforgettable ways. We will focus on one biblical concept for 5 weeks to allow kids to dig deeply into the topic and plant God's truth in their hearts. Our first unit, is the Creation Story, found in Genesis 1 and 2.

God's story of new beginnings seemed appropriate for our first unit in "cross|training." This feels like a genesis for us as well. God, we thank you for this opportunity to glorify you in our ministry!
